Francesco Galli Zugaro

Amazon and Mekong Rivers
  • Leader in luxury, small ship cruising on the world’s greatest rivers
  • Unparalleled opportunities to watch wildlife and experience cultures
  • Exquisite food and architectural design are integral to the experience

Singapore-based, half American and half Italian, Francesco Galli Zugaro is certainly a citizen of the world. His travels have taken him around the globe and his experiences have given him a taste and an eye for the very best on any journey – whether it is the plating of the first course at lunch, the feel of the arrangement of a stateroom, or the perfect time to alight from your boat to explore a particular stretch of shoreline of one of the world’s great rivers. No detail is too small for his attention, and each person on his team at Aqua Expeditions is fully committed to this rare ethos in travel.

Having worked in the Galapagos for several years, Francesco recently realized his dream of launching the first luxury cruise line on the Amazon River in Peru.  The architecturally designed, custom-built vessel offers travelers the comfort and sophistication of 5-star, boutique hotel accommodations, gourmet cuisine, and privately guided shore excursions.

The 16-suite Aria Amazon departs from Iquitos, Peru, and glides guests into the Amazon rainforest and among the fascinating wildlife of Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, home to hundreds of bird species, enchanting pink dolphins, and exotic plant life.

In 2014, Francesco launched the Aqua Mekong, which plies its namesake river through Vietnam and Cambodia. Spacious and indulgent, yet intimate enough to feel entirely exclusive, the Aqua Mekong incorporates relaxed yet refined lounging and dining areas, and can accommodate a maximum of 40 guests plus crew.
