Is it watching a thundering calving event from an ancient glacier? Is it being surrounded by dozens of feeding humpback whales? Or is it simply the stillness and sheer magnitude of the mountains, fjords, and bays of Southeast Alaska that capture the hearts of his loyal and longtime clientele? According to Dennis, it is that and so much more!
For over forty years, discerning travelers from around the world, have made Alaska Sea Adventures their cruise of choice in America’s Last Frontier.
Owner and Operator, Captain Dennis Rogers is a professional mariner with nearly five decades of experience navigating the waters of Alaska both as a commercial fisherman and as the Captain of the Northern Song. As a longtime resident of Petersburg, Alaska, Dennis began his studies as a marine biologist which led him to become a commercial fisherman early in his career. Decades of fishing allowed him to gain unparalleled experience and wisdom navigating the waters of Alaska.
A professional shift from commercial fishing to charter yacht ownership was a natural step for Dennis as it allows him to share his passion and love for the magnificent beauty and exceptional wildlife of Southeast Alaska with his guests.
Twenty years ago, Dennis and his wife, Toni, acquired Alaska Sea Adventures where Dennis is the owner and operator of the Northern Song, a world-class 80-foot expedition yacht based in one of the United States most remote areas: Alaska’s Inside Passage.
The focus is bespoke intimate year-round Alaska experiences for small groups and/or families. His custom tours highlight archaeology, natural and cultural history, whale watching, photography, hiking, sea kayaking, ornithology and so much more.
The Alaska Sea Adventures crew and private chef bring a depth of local knowledge and fine cuisine that is unsurpassed and reflective of the region’s diverse and untouched ecosystem. Whether it’s spontaneous explanations from Captain explaining the complex feeding habits of the region’s humpback whales or it’s a luxurious plate of wild Alaska salmon served with local ingredients, the details aboard the spacious and comfortable Northern Song bring the region to life for visitors from around the world.
In addition to offering one of a kind tours, Dennis supports marine and ecology research. Alaska Sea Adventures is associated with Petersburg Marine Mammal Center, North American Nature Photography Association, Alaska Whale Foundation, Happy Whale, and Tongass National Forest. Dennis has also worked with teams from many institutions such as National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, US Fish and Wildlife Services and University of Alaska.
